history lesson at Valley Forge

Rainer, Ruth, Ansel, Valerie, Garrett and Ethan get a history lesson from a reinactor at Valley Forge. He taught us what he has to carry in his kit, and how the continental army survived the winter here.

  • Dear Chris, Ruth, Ansel & Rainer.
Good Luck, God Speed, Come see us again!

T’was the night before Wednesday and all through the house everything was relaxed, including my spouse. The kids were out playing in the yard with the dog, me in the kitchen pouring a big glass of grog. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, why its “BEER CAN ONE” and a little boy named Rainer.

Of course, their came Chris, Ruth and Ansel too, all smiling cheerfully, exclaiming, “how do”. They had come from afar around Keystone mountains and bends, a little weary from driving; will this road ever end?

I welcomed them in, said hey glad you’re here, now un-hitch that trailer and come have a beer. The kids started playing, like unguided missiles in flight, the wives started asking will this be all right?

They came bearing gifts of cheese curds and more, from the city we once lived, on lake Michigan’s shore. Their mission seemed clear; to find a new home, so off to the country they decided to roam. For a year more or less, they will travel about, making friends, seeing places and learning while out. Our stop, just a brief one in the overall schemes, as they wander and work, exploring their dreams.

If you’re understaffed and need carpentry done, then Chris is your man, just invite “BEER CAN ONE”. Hey, Hey, Ruth is no slouch; yes she can contribute too, drawing and sketching a new frame for you.

Should you see Chris and Ruth, the little boys too, welcome them in and buy them a brew. I’m lucky I am, to be part of this crowd, “ the best group I know” says Joel McCarty, aloud. The work is inspiring, the most rewarding I know, just remember the people, for they make it so.
